Lead UX Engineer

Department: Technology - Engineering
Location: Cary, NC

Lead UX Engineer

As a Medfusion Lead UX Engineer, you will be responsible for crafting beautiful and feature-rich user interfaces and client applications. You should have an eye for detail and commitment to building quality, clean, and reusable code. You are the sort of person who sweats the individual pixels, but has the experience necessary to keep perfect from being the enemy of good.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the technology in use in the User Experience tier of our platform stack (UIs, APIs) is the best fit. You’ll provide technical direction, both within your scrum team and to the broader engineering team, on the right way to apply UI and usability principles. You will participate fully within your scrum team, writing code, performing code reviews, mentoring junior and senior engineers, and guiding the future direction of your team. In addition to these Engineering responsibilities, you’ll guide technical feasibility discussions from a design perspective, as well as guide Product Management on the same.

Responsibilities

  • Define, implement and maintain a common technology platform
  • Enable secure and high availability solutions in a hosted environment
  • Work with Product Management and an Experience Design Team to develop solutions that delight our customers
  • Participate in peer design and code reviews
  • Collaboratively develop software in accordance with Medfusion’s lofty engineering principles
  • Work as part of a scrum team to develop new features for patients and practices
  • Create and utilize automated unit tests to ensure quality of code
  • Design, develop, consume, and maintain well-defined APIs that meet client needs
  • Mentor, coach, and develop the talents of junior engineers
  • Participate in broader architectural reviews with an eye for User Experience
  • Research and proof-of-concept work with new technologies
  • Provide estimates and technical feasibility guidance on prospective work
  • Provide tactical support during demos, discussions, client support, and executive discussions

 

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field
  • 7-10+ years’ experience developing robust applications with high availability, performance and scalability requirements
  • 1-2 years’ experience with software architecture, with an eye for performance, reliability, and scalability
  • Demonstrated leadership experience within a technically demanding role
  • Experience and ability owning technical decisions and portions of an enterprise software solution platform
  • Strong problem-solving skills, particularly root cause analysis and debugging
  • Strongly proficient with JavaScript
    • Experience with ECMA2017+
  • Proficient with REST
  • Proficient with React as well as, at least one of the following:
    • Vue
    • AngularJS
  • Proficient with unit testing
    • Karma
    • JEST
    • Junit
  • Familiar with package management systems
    • npm
    • Maven
  • Familiar with Java
    • Preference for Java 8
  • Familiar with Microservices
    • Preference for Spring-Boot
  • Familiar with SQL and NoSQL
    • Preference for Postgres, MongoDB, Cassandra
  • Experience with data-rich applications
    • Rendering graphs
    • Data-driven dashboards
    • User workflows based on user-specific data and roles
  • Experience crafting polished and visually appealing applications
    • CSS/LESS/SASS
    • Native stylesheets
  • Familiarity with QA Automation preferred, especially Detox and Selenium
